Products & Services
Our core business has its roots in the manufacture of sulphur-based derivatives, going back to 1908. The original range included sulphuric acid, alum sulphate, oleum, sulphur dioxide and molten sulphur, but has over time expanded to include alum tri-hydrate or ammonia solution, anhydrous ammonia, nitric acid, alum hydroxide, caustic soda lye and urea-formaldehyde resin.
We’re the largest supplier of purified phosphoric acid to the local market. Phosphoric acid concentrate is customised for a number of end users locally and internationally, including food grade phosphoric product. Our capabilities extend to the sulphonation of LAB, sulfation of alcohol ethoxylates and conversion of tertiary amines, alkanolamides as well as other liquid with solid blends.
Technical support services span storage and offloading facilities, hazard identification, statutory inspections, product upliftment, annual maintenance inspections, inventory watch, product awareness, the provision of technical product data in the form of material safety data sheets (MSDs), product handling, resolving customers’ production problems and trouble-shooting, supplying spares and assisting with environmental applications and transporter audits.
Manufacturing capabilities
Chamdor
The polyphosphoric acid plant at Chamdor west of Johannesburg is supported by comprehensive infrastructure comprising five warehouses, bulk storage tanks, decanting and filling facilities, a QC laboratory and engineering workshop, in addition to staff change rooms and administrative support. In-house utilities include a steam boiler and a diesel generator that can supply the total needs of the plant in the event of a power failure. The facility has been continuously upgraded and the manufacturing process is fully automated. ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 are in place as are Halaal and Kosher certifications.
Umbogintwini
This has been the home of South Africa’s sulphric acid production since 1908. The plant, which has a nameplate capacity of 500 tonnes of sulphuric acid per day, is a double-absorption four-pass convertor plant. It’s configured into integrated production plants that allow it to produce high quality sulphur trioxide, sulphur dioxide, aluminium sulphate and plant nutrient sulphur. ISO 9002, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 are in place. At our Resin plant we produce urea-formaldehyde resins for the foundry and timber industry.
Chloorkop
This facility is designed to produce surfactants such as anionic active matter through sulphonation of selected organic raw materials for the homecare industry. They’re used as raw materials in the manufacture of toiletries, cosmetics, hygiene and personal care products. The sulphonation process comprises two free flow film reactors. ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 are in place. AECI Industrial Chemicals is a member of RSPO.
Commodity supply
Chloorkop is also one of the distribution points for our commodity trade business. Other warehousing and distribution takes place in Durban, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. Our catalogue of products supports almost all industrial sectors in Southern Africa. We have a number of trade partners who support us globally in sourcing the highest quality products at the most competitive prices. In China, the AECI Group has an office dedicated to the sourcing and procurement of chemicals and maintaining solid relationships with producers. This provides further advantage in obtaining uninterrupted supply at the highest quality standards.
